MAXPEDITION KEYSTONE VERSIPACK SLINGPACK.
I’m all about slingpacks at the moment or fanny packs that I can use as a slingback.
WHY?
I think I’ve talked about this before so so I’ll snap through it now.
Basically I don’t have to take it off I can move around easily, sit on a bus, train or in a car and I can still get to my gear. Unlike a rucksack that I definitely have to take off, to sit down or access my gear. This isn’t a deal breaker but I do like the advantage of a sling pack at the moment. Fantastic!
So bearing above in mind, let’s talk about the MAXPEDITION KEYSTONE VERSIPACK.
My first out of the box reaction to Maxpedtion Keystone Versipack was... this looks awesome, it’s black and chunk in a mil-spec utilitarian sort of way, built from 1000d ballistic nylon with that contrasting high tensile thread it filled me with? What did it fill me with? I guess that the Keystone Versipack was going perform like a professional and endure for a lifetime, yep, awesome is the right reaction. But 4 rows x 2 columns of MOLLE right there on the top of the pack WHAT? Yep that seemed like a weird design choice for me. But was it? To push the idea I strapped my favourite water bottle to it and d’you know what? Configured as a slingpack it worked! Easy to carry, easy to access and still pretty easy to access the main compartment, who would’ve funk it.
The first pocket upfront is a simple slip pocket with dual zipper. For me this would have been a good place to have an anchor for a keychain, there wasn’t one indeed I couldn’t find one at all in my Keystone Versipack. This isn’t a deal breaker but it was missed.
Pocket two is directly behind the first and is a surprising large and useful. It has a dual zipper and can almost opened flat, enough for great access but not so much that gear is gonna fall out. It has a single slip pocket inside. For me this is a really use full sized pocket. I can fit all of my essential EDC with room to spare. I like this pocket, it’s more than it seems no key chain though.
Pocket three is the main compartment for the Keystone Versipack. As with the other pockets it has a dual zipper with genuine paracord zipper pulls.
So far so useful but what else?
The Keystone Versipack waist packs has facility to stash important docs, passports etc in a pocket that at least is very difficult for pickpockets to get into without you noticing and at best, hidden so a pickpocket doesn’t even know it’s there, out of sight, out of mind. This pocket as most on this excellent waist pack has a dual zipper, again with paracord zipper pulls that could locked or tucked away making entry really difficult if that’s what you need. The back of this pocket is padded the front has plush hook’n’loop for CCW or customised EDC organisation capabilities.
Using the Keystone Versipack as a Fanny pack is easy. The integrated waits belt is 2” wide and has a nice dual adjust, quick release buckle. There’s two tri-glide buckles to tidy loose ends. The waist belt is long enough to wear over a big Parker or as a crossbody slingpack as mentioned before, it’s nice to have the option. There’s no dedicated carry handle which on several occasions I did miss.
UP FRONT.
We’re nearly done al Thats left to say is to the front of the Keystone are three hook’n’loop fields. One right across pocket one and two more either side. I quite liked this, I do like moral patches : )

Pocket three is the main compartment for the Keystone Versipack. As with the other pockets it has a dual zipper with genuine paracord zipper pulls.
Inside and to the front are two usefully sized mesh pockets, big enough for a large smart phone and a power pack. Carry your phone and keep that charge toped-up while on the move. To the back of the main compartment is a large slip pocket that kind of hides a plush hook’n’loop field. I found this useful for stowing my EDC gear using an after-market hook’n’loop organiser panel. This worked very well, allowing me to keep these tools separate from my essential EDC that I use everyday. It occurs to me that this has a CCW capability as well.
The main compartment is a USFULL size being big enough to fit a 32oz Nalgene bottle or even a waterproof jacket, always a solid idea in my part of the world.

IN CONCLUSION THEN.
I like it, I like it a lot. The configuration of pockets is optimal and the dual zippers through out make it possible for left and right handed people to enjoy this bag equally. I love the ballistic nylon the feel and crunch of the interiors and the contrasting high tensile thread and, and I think I have a gear problem : ) Seriously though, it’s a great bag, well designed considered and configured.
