MAXPEDITION - PLATY POCKET ORGANIZER. 4X6 & 5X7.

How do you organizer the un organisable a question I’ve asked before and I’m sure I’ll ask again but what I mean is, if you have a favourite bag or pocket that didn’t come with organisation and unless you want your EDC gear to rattle around in the bottom of a pocket, making noise, getting damaged and being difficult to find then you’re going to need the; PLATY POCKET ORGANIZER by MAXPEDITION.

WHAT IS THE PLATY?

The PLATY is a pocket organiser i.e. to facilitate the organisation of gear carried in a pocket, bag, rucksack you get the idea.

MAXPEDITION PLATY, TWO IN THE HAND.

THE PLATY WORKS GREAT AS AN ORGANISER & POCKET GUARD.

LOOSE GEAR ORGANISED IN A SLING-BAG WITH NO ORGANISATION.

In my opinion the PLATY is best carried inside something secure although if needs be and by use of the 58” long, genuine 550 Paracord, adjustable lanyard, you can carry the PLATY around your neck like a VIP  Access All Areas pass or as a small sling pack.

Personally this is not how I’d generally use it but occasionally it’s great to have the option and that useful length cordage is always good to have.

ABOUT THAT LANYARD.

A SLICK WAY TO STORE THE PARACORD LANYARD WHEN NOT IN USE.

LANYARD CORD LOCK FOR LENGTH ADJUSTMENT.

The standard configuration for the lanyard is for it to be threaded from the inside of the PLATY out through the grommets. A cord lock is added and the cord secured with a knot. I’ve reversed this so the knot and lock can be tidied away inside. in my opinion this looks more slick and if you need to use the lanyard just unzip the vertical pocket in the back and fish it out.

VERTICAL ZIPPER POCKET FOR SMALLER ITEMS AND TO STORE THAT LANYARD.

ORGANISATION CONFIGURATION.

CONFIGURATION SIZE COMPARISON.

Ok so let’s get into this - The PLATY has a back and a front configuration and because of the way I use it, I’m going to consider the front to have one large slip pocket big enough for a large smart phone, a note book etc.

FIRST SLINP POCKETS DETAIL.

ELASTIC RETAINERS.

2ND TWIN SLINP POCKETS.

To the front of this are three elastic keeps; two small being about 1” wide and a larger central keeper that spans two more smaller slip pockets to the very front of this layup. To this just looks like a great layout for your standard write, light, slice EDC tools.

WHAT’S AROUND THE BACK.

AROUND THE BACK.

GREAT FOR SHARPIE PENS : )

To the back of the PLATY is the large full length, vertical zipper giving access to a simple full size pocket for those smaller, none conforming items. Either side of this are two more slip pockets that work out great for pens especially sharpies.

CONSTRUCTION AND THAT FINGER LOOP.

The construction of the PLATY as with all MAXPEDITION gear is is second to none and better then it needs to be, so with consideration it is beautifully over engineered.

DURABLE FINGER LOOP.

YOU can find out more about materials and specs HERE but for me I am always in awe of the designers choice of materials, in this case the PLATY has a tough and durable feel while not worrying me that it’s going to wear the bottom out of my Jean pockets anytime soon.

FINGER LOOP & PARACORD ZIPPER PULL DETAIL.

It has a chunky 550 paracord zipper pull and nice large finger loop for some easy pocket retrieval. And if you need some more substantial retrieval you can use my cordage reconfiguration to make a carry handle.

IS THERE ANYTHING I DON’T LIKE?

PLATY 5X7 STACKED OUT.

Yep! I don’t really like the two small, one large elastic keepers, I would prefer to see four keepers corresponding with the two lower slip pockets or maybe two small over one slip pocket and a larger over the second? But given how great everything else I should have faith that the designers over at MAXPEDITION know more about this than I do and just haven’t found the right way of using it yet.

SIZE? DON’T ASK ME IF IT MATTERS.

PLATY 4X6 & 5X7 COMPARASON PLUS GEAR LAYOUT.

I don’t know if size matters but the right size does. The size that fits. The PLATY come in 2 sizes 4X6” and the 5X7” and for me this works best for the kind of EDC tools you need to carry. I use the 4X6 variant to carry my bike tools, it fits em just right and then that PLATY bundle fits in my hip pouch nicely. But if you need to carry larger, more full sized tools and gear then the 5X7 Is going to be your boy.

In short; bigger doesn’t mean more gear it means larger gear you’ll need to consider pocket size too. The both sizes of the PLATY will fit your jeans pockets and are defiantly going to fit your cargo pants (Thats if you’re an adult) so your choice here really is just the size of the tools you wanna carry.

IN CONCLUSION.

For me the MAXPEDITION PLATY pocket organiser is all about gear having a place and know exactly where that place is when you need that gear also pocket bulges are never ever cool : ) but seriously, a great piece of MAXPEDITION gear, well designed well made from high end materials it feels like it’s been made by people who care about their customers and the gear they produce and who doesn’t like that, a lot!
