TRIPLE AUGHT DESIGN S2 Pouches, EDC No1. (cont) (REVIEW)

Being able to grab my flashlight and multi tool easily and when needed became evident when I started to use a GORUCK GR1 as my everyday carry rucksack. Initially I had these key items stashed in my Maxpedition AUP which when times are good seems fine.

But when you're woking in the middle of the night, by a faint but defiant sound of someone unscrewing the padlock plate on the shed, where your prized and very expensive DH mountain bike lives, knowing where your flashlight is and being able to grab it is super helpful.

THE SECRET TO A GOOD EDC FOR ME, IS SIMPLY KNOWING WHERE EVERYTHING IS

So what to do?
What was the solution?

This came to mind pretty quickly in the shape and form x 2 S2 pouches by Triple Aught Design! Why do I need x2? One for my Fenix RC05 flashlight and the other for my Leatherman Wingman multitool. Very often these tools are used together.

TRIPLE AUGHT DESIGN S2 POUCH

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

As with all my EDC projects the decision for which pouch, organiser, rucksack or tools to buy and include does not come without a struggle. I decided I liked the Triple Aught Design S2 pouch pretty quickly within my search but after spending many evenings trawling the net. I came to conclusion that I was right first time, the S2 pouch was perfect for my requirements.

SIZE

SIZE COMPARISON - THE FENIX RC05 AND LEATHERMAN WINGMAN FIT PERFECTLY

The TAD S2 is exactly the right size for my RC05 and Wingman, approx 4” so the fit would be good and once mounted side by side on my Greyman Tactical RIP-(M) would be easy to find, use and look very cool as well.

CONSTRUCTION

The S2 looks and feels as tough as you could ever need but unlike some pouches of this type that were also  on my short list, the S2 is clean and simple in its design. It is not super adjustable, it doesn’t try to think of every single way you might want to mount it, then try and give you those options.

CONSTRUCTION QUALITY DETAIL

It just gives you one multi purpose solution the rest is up to your creativity. Even though the TAD S2 pouch is made from MIL-SPEC 17337 nylon webbing It doesn’t feel that there’s more pouch then there is the item it’s supposed to carry.

THE QULITY OF CONSTRUCTION IS VERY TIGHT

It only weighs about 1 oz It’s tough as mentioned but not over engineered. Just enough but not over the top, I felt this made TAD S2 great for my needs, given it was going to be mounted inside my EDC GORUCK.

MOUNTING SYSTEM

1 - MOUNTING SYSTEM DEPLOYED AND READY TO GO

2-3 - MOUNTING THE S2 TO THE RIP-(M) IS ACTUALLY A LOT OF FUN

The S2 has x2 off horizontal hook and loop straps on the back, these straps allow you to mount your TAD S2 how every you like.

4-5 - CINCHED DOWN AND IN POSITION

HOW TO CARRY

RETRIEVING THE WINGMAN CONCEALED CARRY STYLE

The Fenix RC05 and Leatherman Wingman are relatively new additions to my EDC and finishing off this variant of the build. As discussed in previous post: GORUCK GR1 rucksack EDC, my EDC is carried in a GORUCK GR1 rucksack and pouches and equipment are mounted within, to a Greyman Tactical RIP-(M). I decided to mount the TAD S2s horizontally, up and over and below existing gear; (Maxpedition AUP & Vanquest Hydra pouch).

EDC No1 - FULL LOAD-UP INC TAD S2s AND PERSONAL SURVIVAL KIT

After trying a couple of ideas in the end, I settled on this configuration as I can access the pouches from the side of the rucksack by partially unzipping and reaching in, concealed carry style.

IN CONCLUSION
For me the secret to a good EDC is being very, very sure I know where everything is, all the time and being able to grab kit quickly and effectually. This EDC configuration gives me just that. The twin TAD S2 pouch are the final addition to this set-up.
