YOMP NOTES Brand, logo & morale patch development - G•A•W No1 - (CLOSED).

YOMP NOTES; A GOOD NAME FOR A BLOG?

Back in the 70s, on the Isle of Purbeck, I was completing the last section of the DofE (Duke of Edinburgh's Award) I remember that one of the instructors had a red note book where he would scribble his notes. On the cover, written on a sticky label, that was now peeling off so had been re stuck with sellotape, were the words “YOMP NOTES” A good name for blog I thought if ever such a thing is invented : )

CREATING THE YOMPOSAUR NEG-OUT SOCIAL MEDIA IG BRAND

FREEDOM TO DESIGN JUST WHAT I WANT

By day I’m a graphic designer, I’ve been running an agency since 1996. As such I enjoyed creating the brand and logo for the YOMP NOTES blog and social media accounts. At the time, over a year ago now, I had no followers, likes or visitors so I was free to do exactly what I wanted to see and if in time, others liked it that would be great. I wanted to create a blog with images and posts that I would like to read and so it follows with the name, brand and logo, I just did what I wanted, something I can't often do as a professional.

FONT LEAGUE SPARTAN

The font is League Spartan, clean, simple, easy to reproduce and has a World War II, dig for victory vibe to it, which echos very distantly the history of the Purbecks and the part it played during WWII, especially during the build up to the D-Day landings.

WHY THE DINOSAUR?

To this day I've enjoyed many hikes and adventures on the Isle of Purbeck. It’s a world heritage site and Marine Wildlife Reserve (PMWR). It’s also known as the Jurassic Coast because of the fossils that can be found in the rocks everywhere. Best known for fossils of marine reptiles such as the Ichthyosaur and Plesiosaur, with regard to my logo a bit of poetic licence has been used, given YOMP NOTES is predominantly about walking and not swimming : ).

A MINIMAL RUN OF 10 OFF PIECES, SO IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY

WOLF GREY OR RANGER GREEN, THE YOMP NOTES MORALE PATCH WORKS WELL ON BOTH

YOMP NOTES MORALE PATCH APPLIED HERE TO MY P.S.K [Personal Survival Kit].

The Purbeck Hills were where I really discovered outdoor adventure as a method, as a skill. It was here it was given value. Therefor, the reason the Purbecks have influenced the blog, it's brand and name. I still hike in the Purbecks as much as I can. On cold days, winter days when the day trippers have gone home and the B&B weekenders are staying inside with their firesides and marshmellowed hot chocolates. When it's just me, landscape and elements, that's when it's best.

EARLY YOMP NOTES TEE SHIRT DESIGN, PROBABLY WONT EVER PRINT THIS BUT WANTED TO SEE THE IDEA IN REALITY

YOMP NOTES TEE SHIRT BACK PRINT, WILL USE THIS, LOVE IT!

IN CONCLUSION

YOMP NOTES is about walking a very long way, with a heavy load, to not get lost and find our way and enjoy every minute of it. And as I’ve said before; “I bloody love dinosaurs”.

  1. Hi - just found your blog, and am slowly working my way through it. I'm about two hours up the road from you, and was recently in Dorset for a family holiday. Thanks for the heads up about the font you used - I'm always on the lookout for vintage fonts; one of my interests as well as EDC! Simon
