511 TACTICAL -  RUSH TIER SYSTEM IN USE

Strapping, zipping or attaching a smaller pack to a larger, to give more modularity, carry options and volume isn’t a new concept, it’s been around for years. World travel back packs quite often have this feature. A large capacity main pack with a zipper attached smaller pack to use as a day pack or for carry on. Companies such 511 Tactical even make it possible to strap a Rush12 on the back of a Rush24, using their awesome RUSH TIER SYSTEM.

THE OBJECTIVE - MORE CAPACITY, MORE MODULARITY

This isn’t a system that GORUCK provides but their designers did incorporate just enough features in the standard issue rucksack and with the help of the GORUCK SCARS dept it can be done. So, why do this? As I said earlier; More capacity, More modularity, More adaptability and all enjoying the world famous build quality of construction of a genuine GORUCK. This rucksack Piggy-Pack Tier system could take you twice around the world and would still be jumping for more.

I have developed X3 off variants, I would suggest opting for variant No.3 first as it's the easiest and if you like the mod and find it useful, you can go do variant No.1. Here I'm going to start with No.1 as I have already have everyting in place.

VARIANT No.1 - CALL GORUCK SCARS

SO! - HOW’S IT DONE?
To start with you’ll Need to get up to speed and read the following post:

For fun I’m going to go-ahead and assume that you’ve read YOMP NOTES blog post - #2 - YOMP-SPEED No1 - GORUCK GR1 26L - EXTERIOR -MODS, you’ve contacted GORUCK SCARS team and asked them to add X4 compression straps to your GORUCK, NO???!! Don’t panic, I have a none scars specific option too, indeed I’d recommend you use this first before committing, I’ll discuss it later.

PACKS AND COMPONENTS READY

BULLET TIME
You’ll be pleased to hear that your GORUCK BULLET rucksack doesn’t need any modification added by SCARS just a couple of items that you can’t buy on Amazon and easily add yourself.

A CARRY HANDLE CARABINER IS USFUL FOR HANGING YOUR GORUCK UP AT THE BAR AS WELL

ATTACHING SPLIT BAR BUCKLES TO THE GORUCK BULLET

  1. Add a good sized Carabiner to the carry handle.
  2. Add X2 ITW SR Split-Bar Buckles to the MOLLE at the bottom of your BULLET.

That’s all the mods you need to make to your GORUCK BULLET.

A TipTap here is to try and use the same brand and model of buckles as you have used else where on your pack, in this way you can mix and match if a buckle gets broken.

HARDWARE SWAP OUT

FEMALE TO MALE

GORUCK GR1 ADJUSTED
Now you need to make some adjustment to the GORUCK compression system. The top section remains as is. If you have followed this config so-far you’ll have X2 female, split bar buckles attached to your BULLET so you’ll have to swap out one side of your GR1 compression system for a MALE. So to confirm you will now have X2 male buckles at the bottom of your GR1 and X2 female buckles attached to the bottom row of MOLLE on the front of your BULLET.

HARDWARE ATTACHED. THE PROJECT IS READY TO CLIP TOGETHER

THAT’S IT, DONE!
Now it’s just a case of snapping all together. The bottom buckles just snap together like for like, easy. The top GR1 compression strap wraps around the BULLET, and can be adjusted to keep all in place.

ALL CLIPPED TOGETHER AND LOOKING RUCK-OUT READY

Next clip the top carry handles together. The is a good idea as it means that all stays together if you unclip the top compression strap to access the bags, adds security and it can also be used instead of the top compression straps altogether.

THE CARABINER HOLDS THE TWO PACKS TOGETHER, EVEN WHEN UNCLIPPING THE BUCKLES TO OPEN A PACK

This will really become useful later when I explain the no GORUCK SCARS variant of this mod next!

VARIANT No.2 - NONE SCARS

Can this mod be made without the help of GORUCK SCARES? the quick answer is yep! Love saying that : ) To demonstate this option, ive used my GROUCK GR1 21L as it has no SCARS modes. To achieve this variant you will need to put together your own Piggy-Pack Tier straps.

YOUR OBJECTIVE : )

THE COMPONENTS

These are made up of:

• X2 MIL-TEC Utility Straps (Remove the buckles, leaving just a loop at one end).
• X2 ITW SR Split-Bar Buckles
• X2 off ITW Web Dominators
• X2 off DURAFLEX SIAMESE Slick Clips.

Put everything together as per the pic. Remember to attache the Slick Clips to the loops at the end of your straps.

Repeat on the other side.

3. Clip everything together and adjust. Tidy up strap lose endS with the Web Dominators.

THE CARABINER KEEPS ALL TOGHER, EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO UNCLIP THE BUCKLES TO OPEN A BAG,

4. Use your carabiner to clip the carry handles of the two packs together and you’re ready to go.
VARIANT No.3 - 511 RUSH TIER

Yep, if you’re not the mood and just want to get this done and go, there are kits you can buy. I have not used any of them myself but 511 TACTICAL are repeatable company,  therefor I am happy to list here.

511 TACTICAL - RUSH TIER SYSTEM

• 511 TACTICAL RUSH TIER SYSTEM
There are other TIER strap systems out there so do have a good look around before you dive-in.

IF YOUR NAME'S NOT ON THE LIST YOU'RE NOT COMING IN. MY RUCK FACE.

So if you’re a world traveler, a hiker a preper or armed forces and love your GORUCK but need some more capacity and modularity, this is a great mod. I’ve used it a couple of times for long hikes, using the BULLET exclusively for X2 3L water bladders. This complete rig weighs about 6lbs which is very doable and compares very well with other Mil Spec back with similar functionality.

SET UP, PACKED UP AND READY TO GO. THIS CONFIG WEIGHS APROX 6lbs WHEN COMPLETE & HAS A 36L CAPACITY.
