1/3 DAY HIKE LOAD OUT 20/21 - YOMP-ENGINE No2 - VANQUEST IBEX 26L VARIANT

Every year at about this time I have a good look at my hiking gear list to see what goes, what stays, what needs to be added or upgraded, all this to take me forward for this seasons fall winter and early spring.

The 20/21 YOMP ENGINE No2 is based around the VANQUEST IBEX 26L. This rucksack didn’t need any coaxing to do the job I wanted it to do and was eager to get it done and done right out of the box... well almost : ) You can find out more about the VANQUEST IBEX 26L at the links below or at in RELATED LINKS at the end of this post.

So this is the load-out, the gear the YOMP-ENGINE No2. carries, think of it as a kit that’s always in my pack, ready to go. I guess a bit like a bugout bag that I use and enjoy all the time, for hiking and adventures.

I’ve complied this gear list over many years to cover anything that might happen during a hike. Usually that’s nothing, usually I walk from A to B I get dirty, wet and tired and that’s it but sometimes things happen and when they do, I want to be more ready than last time.

4 SEASONS IN 1 DAY:

WINTER LOAD OUT FOCUS ON EXTRA WARM AND WATER PROOF LAYERS AND THE ABILITY TO MAKE HOT FOOD AND DRINKS

What ever the season I'll mostly carry the same gear, so I can rely that I'm carrying what I need without thinking about it. In my part of the world it can, rain at any time of the year and can be cold late in the day even in the summer so the main change to my gear would be the clothing; warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, waterproof when it rains or snows ... no shit! : ) Water is another consideration, I’ll usually use a 32oz Nalgene bottle in the winter and a CamelBak reservoir (100oz) in the spring and summer.

SUMMER LOAD OUT IS ALL ABOUT WATER

Simple put I just don’t need as much water in the winter which is great, it gives me room for wet weather gear and spare warm layers. So to be clear, I don't carry all this gear all the time, if I really dont think i'll need it, it doesn't come, this is a list of my total options.

With above in mind and the trail before us, below is my gear list organised into sections of use. 1- 10.

THE YOMP-ENGINE No2. LOAD OUT - GEAR LIST:

1 - CHARGE / POWER / LIGHT / SAFETY

6 - SHELTER / PROTECTION

7 - UTILITES

So this is the hike load out 20/21 YOMP-ENGINE No.2. Hopefully it covers everything that I'll need during my hikes and adventures for the next year but if that changes, so will this post and you'll be updated. Happy hiking : )
